Workshop : EOS Experience Seminar
Date : 9th – 10th December 2009
Location : Raffles Hotel, Phnom Penh, Combodia.
This workshop organized by iOne Service Centre, which is the local Canon camera distributor in Phnom Penh. A total of 130 local and foreign participants from different photography background attended this workshop, supported by CSPL. In this event, i was invited as a speaker to share on EOS experience with the participants. My sharing includes Basic & Custom Setting to maximize EOS DSLRs’ capability, technical review for EOS 7D & 5D Mark II, slide show and others.
This seminar consumes much more time compared to my other seminars as I was facilitated with a Cambodian interpreter to translate my presentation in English, into their local language (Khmer). Although the communication with the participants’ part is an obstacle, to my surprise most of them are keen learners and they got their friend who knows English to translate my explanation for them.
In the 2nd half of first day’s seminar, I focus on the 2 latest models from EOS family- EOS 5D Mark II & EOS 7D. The participants are very impressed on the following session where they get to see the output quality from both cameras- LIVE! A mini studio is set up in the seminar room where I demo with both EOS 5D Mark II & EOS 7D, shooting a local model with ‘custom white balance’. After my demo, there is a practical portrait photography session for all participants who brought their DSLR system.

In Day 2 seminar, a model shoot is conducted within the hotel areas. There are a few local models involved; hereby participants are divided into a few groups guided by facilitators. During the photo shoot, I moved around to assist participants on trouble shooting within their EOS system and to demonstrate White Balance, Custom Functions, Flash Settings and some EOS’s interesting functions under the actual shooting environment. I recalled some participants feedback to me that it is much better to learn through practical shooting rather than theoretical learning. Well, I agree with that partially, as one has to master the basics of photography in advance, before proceed with mastering one’s camera system.
On the 2nd half in Day 2 seminar, I share with participants on Digital Photo Professional (DPP) software application, involving RAW file editing and post processing. Besides, I have also demo the output process using Canon Pixma Pro series printer, with Easy Photo Print Pro to participants. Eventually the participants discovered that the software is very user friendly yet powerful. The seminar is schedule to end at 1pm but somehow being extended to 4pm due to participants’ overwhelming interest to gain more tips and settings on EOS system. We had a good sharing session; again I must thank all those who volunteered to translate from English to Khmer, sharing with others who can’t interpret with English.
Group photo was taken with the participants, including the models, facilitators, organizers and speakers.
